Provence’s wine growers are rewriting their story but staying true to their roots
Deeply committed to preserving the history and soul of Château Romanin in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Marie and Jean-Louis Charmolüe have been travelling the road to excellence since 2006, nurturing their 143 acres of vines using biodynamic techniques. Since 2018, the new owner, Franck Breau, has launched a major restructuring project with priority use of plant materials. His buried cellar, adorned with greenery, is a genuine architectural masterpiece. Domaine de Sulauze in Miramas is going back to its roots too. Bought up in 2004 by husband and wife team Guillaume and Karina Lefevre, the wines of this 1,235-acre AOC / AOP vineyard are entirely produced using organic and biodynamic techniques. Next, let’s head to Cassis, where you can savour the delicious and reputed white wines of Domaine du Paternel. At their highest point, the domain’s organically-grown vines offer sweeping views over the Mediterranean Sea and plunge down along steep cliffs…

The domain, the proud holder of the “Vignobles & Découvertes” wine tourism label, nurtures 173 acres of organically and biodynamically-grown vines. Nestling in the Haut Var, between the Verdon and Mediterranean coast, Château Mentone prides in a potent blend of ancient know-how and organic growing techniques introduced in 2012, spearheaded by Marie-Pierre Caille’s commitment to preserving the environment while offering faultless wines. Set at the crossroads to the Estérel Hills and Gulf of Saint-Tropez, Château Font du Broc is living proof that the finest grapes are born out of respect for Mother Nature. Meanwhile, the idyllic natural setting of Château Léoube, set near the shores of Bormes-les-Mimosas, appears to lend the wines a resolutely unique flavour… Last but not least, Château Saint-Roux, at the heart of the Maures plain, offers all the right ingredients for the perfect break, including guest rooms, a pond complete with frogs that promises to captivate the kids, home-made goat cheese tasting and a new organic wine… A foodie paradise!

A family-run vineyard dating back five generations, Domaine Montirius prides in respecting the local terroir and environment and finding just the right balance needed to produce the finest local wines – a commitment now rewarded with the coveted organic label. Tucked away in the heart of the Luberon, Château Fontvert in Lourmarin produces powerful and character-filled wines from Syrah, Grenache and Vermentino grapes grown organically for the last 10 years! Here, you are on the threshold of an exceptional terroir, the highly-acclaimed Châteauneuf-du-Pape, home to Domaine de Beaurenard for the last 7 generations. Its 148 acres of vines are cherished using natural growing cycles and biodynamic techniques, rewarded with the “ecocert” label.
